YouTube Video Recap: Mega Pokemon Squirtle

Hi Lego fans! I posted this video of a build and review of a non-Lego set - Mega Pokemon Squirtle Pixel Art. Check it out.

Review

Being fairly new to building Mega sets, I didn’t exactly open the box the correct way! I cut one side and ripped another to get the bags and instructions out. The instructions are nice with the images of the build, part list, and a detailed step-by-step.

Getting into the build, it was different for me and took some time to adjust to the instructions. I’m not sure if I’m saying this right, but it felt like you’re building top-down or upside down compared to Lego builds. After figuring that out, the tiles were fairly frustrating for me. It might be because I try my best to make them aligned and perfect, or maybe it was that the tiles are very tight when placed on a stud, or it could have been the alignment tool they provided (although you need to build it). Whatever it was, I gave up after a few rows of placing tiles. I did go back every now and then to try my best, but I ended up being okay with how the tiles looked in the end. Mega also provided their version of a brick separate tool, which gave me some trouble with one of the tiles. It’s still nice they include one.

Pokemon Squirtle Pixel Art with all the Nostalgic 8-bit Glory

The Squirtle Pixel Art build looks fantastic and will display nicely on my bookshelf. Once I build my full collection with Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Mew, all the Pokemon next to each other will look great! On the other hand, getting to the completed set was fairly frustrating. The build experience was not what I expected, took time to adjust, and isn’t something I’d want to do again (although I need to build my other Pokemon).

Pokemon x Lego

Now that I’ve built this Mega set, I’m more excited for the Pokemon sets coming to Lego. Not, super excited, because they’re fairly expensive and they don’t look incredibly amazing. But, I’ll bet the build experience of Pokemon sets is going to be miles better with Lego.

You can check out my blog post about Lego Pokemon here or pre-order and prepare for the releases at Lego.

I appreciate you for being here and reading! Let me know if you like this type of blog with a review and follow up of our YouTube video.

  • Mega Pokemon Squirtle

  • Weird adjustment for me coming from normally building Lego sets

  • Looks awesome and brings a lot of nostalgia of the GameBoy 8-bit games

  • Excited for what Lego and Pokemon have in store for fans
