Have You Noticed Recent Price Increases?

For those of us that have been in the Lego community for a while, it is easy to see that Lego is getting more expensive each year.   Many people like to use certain metrics like price per piece, price per pound, or how many minifigures are included in a set.  For today’s topic, I am looking at comparable sets within a theme that have seen price increases over the last few years.

One could argue that the price increase is related to increased quality and detail in the newer sets compared to earlier builds.  Smaller specialized pieces have been created to increase the “realness” of builds.  The best example of this is the Speed Champions theme.  Many new pieces and colors have been created recently to make these vehicle builds amazing and very popular.  Speed Champions has also seen several price increases over the last few years, but you cannot deny the quality, realism, and innovative build techniques that Lego has used in creating these sets.

Brickheadz

The most notable price change this year is the increase on Brickheadz sets for 2026.  Since their creation, Brickheadz has followed a standard pricing formula of $10 per Brickheadz and $5 if the set contains a smaller, half-size if you will, Brickheadz.  Sets that had multiple Brickheadz were consistently priced at $10 per character multiplied by the number of full-size or half-size builds in the box.

Eeyore in 2025 $9.99 Eeyore in 2026 $12.99

The price difference was easy to spot on 40797 Eeyore that was released in 2025 for $9.99 and is now $12.99 starting on January 1st.  The new standard pricing for Brickheadz are $12.99 for a single, $19.99 for sets with a full size and half size Brickheadz, and $24.99 for two full-size.

Unlike Speed Champions, my opinion is that Brickheadz have not seen a drastic increase in quality or creativity since its inception.  This theme has always included printed tiles and bricks in lieu of stickers.  Brickheadz mostly follows a similar build structure and uses a similar combination of tiles, cheese slopes, and SNOT building to create the specific details for each character.

Interestingly, Lego did not follow the new pricing formula on the Stranger Things four packs that were recently released, they remained at $39.99 for four characters.  I am curious if future multipacks see a price increase?  With the history of multipacks containing four or more Brickheadz not selling well, I am hopeful the price remains unchanged (I’m looking at you 40623 Battle of Endor Heroes).

Technic Monster Jam

Lego released two new Technic Monster Jam sets, 42220 Sparkle Smash and 42219 Grave Digger Fire and Ice at a price of $34.99.  When the Monster Jam subtheme debuted in 2021, the price was $19.99.  The two new releases in 2025 saw an increase to $27.99 and one year later the price jumped again to $34.99.  The fundamentals of the sets have remained unchanged with a similar piece count, size, scale, a pull-back play feature, fun designs, and no minifigures.

Other Technic builds have also seen price increases.  Most noticeably are the mid size vehicle builds that cost $50, then saw a price increase to $60, then another to $65.

31379 Fierce Dinosaur release this year is an upgraded and recolored version of 31058 Mighty Dinosaurs that retired in 2025

31379 Fierce Dinosaur is a recolored and improved version of 31058 Mighty Dinosaurs.  The 3 in 1 builds are very similar as well, featuring a Velociraptor instead of a T. Rex, a Stegosaurus instead of a Triceratops, and a Pterosaur instead of a Pterodactyl. The price also increased from $14.99 to $19.99 but in this case it seems justified as 31379 has 99 additional pieces compared to 31058.

How do you feel about the price increases mentioned above?  Or the price of Lego in general on new releases like 11370 Stranger Things: The Creel House or the 10356 Star Trek: U.S.S Enterprise?  How do exclusive minifigures factor in your willingness to pay “extra” for a set?  Or a popular IP like Star Wars or Harry Potter?
