Visiting the Lego Store Opening Weekend

There’s a new Lego store in Southern California!

The Santa Anita Mall welcomed guests during the weekend of August 15 - 17 for the grand opening of the Lego store.

My family and I went to the opening weekend of the newest Lego store in California. The timing was perfect because the kids just started going back to school and we needed to run errands. So, we figured why not head to the mall to accomplish some back to school shopping AND visit the new Lego store.

While we missed the grand opening on day one, we made it to day two on a Saturday. The store looked great with the Lego brick design outside, black framed glass windows, and colorful balloons to celebrate the event. They managed the store capacity with a queue outside the store, allowing only a certain amount of guests inside at a time. I spoke to the manager and told them they managed the flow of customers very well because when I went to a different store on opening day the line wrapped around the store and customers couldn’t really shop. Anyway, the shelves were stocked - One Piece Going Merry ship was the only set I couldn’t find - and the Pick a Brick wall looked great! I should have got a picture of the wall.

Each one of my family members received a free gift - a Lego tile that read “I (heart) Lego Store” and the store location. We also did some shopping and received the special Gift with Purchase (GWP) which was Set 40528 Lego Store. This set has 402 pieces and is a build of a mini Lego store. I think the interior is incredible with the displays, Lego sets on shelves, and a Pick a Brick wall. The third photo above is Set 6577643 New Store Grand Opening, which was only given on day one. I did ask if they had the Up-Scaled Baby Astronaut GWP available, but they sold out one day one after 2 hours of opening.

Just outside of the store and still inside the mall, there was a section for more Lego fun! The Lego store offered an opportunity for guests to build a 6x6 plate with 1x1 bricks to be attached to a wall they were creating. The wall was all Lego bricks and would feature an image that included Lego and the location. I didn’t see a final version, but we’ll likely go back soon and I’ll share it. My boys were amazed at the Lego wall being created (pictured below). This area also featured the Lego User Group of Los Angeles (LUGOLA). There were about 6 members of the group and they brought custom builds, including these awesome mechs!

This was a fun experience for me because it was my first time visiting a Lego store on opening day, well technically weekend but still! My family enjoyed it and we loved the experience, especially to be able to be a part of building the Lego wall display. The gifts we received are nice as well and I’m probably going to keep the set sealed to display it and talk about for years to come.

Thanks for reading Lego fans. I hope you all get to enjoy a Lego grand opening one day!
