I Envy All You MOC Builders Out There

I have always been impressed by MOC builders with how they turn an idea into reality using Lego bricks. Most of my life I have been an instruction follower and never had the creativity nor inspiration to change a set into something different.

Until July 26,2025

My inspiration came that night as I was building a Lego set while rewatching the 2021 Rose Bowl between Ohio State and Utah, where CJ Stroud, Marvin Harrison Jr, and Jaxson Smith-Njigba had career games in an exciting shootout that saw OSU win 48-45.  While I was watching that game I was building 40767 Up-Scaled Baby Astronsaut.  40767 was a recent GWP of an up-scaled minifigure in an all red space suit.  It reminded me of the Ohio State alternate uniforms they wore in a game earlier that season versus Penn State.

All my life I have loved the color red as my high school colors were red and white, and as an avid and life long fan of Ohio State athletics (for all the purists, the official color is Scarlet in terms of Ohio State).  I own too many red tee shirts, hoodies, and shoes, but I just can’t help myself.  I also have a growing collection of various red action figures and minifigures that I imagine as a red Ohio State army if you will.  I recently bought the Red Hulk Brickheadz 40668 as an addition to said army.  I am still looking to add the Red Hulk big-fig from 76292 to my collection.

Regarding the MOC of 40767, I am still in the planning phase and have not attempted its transition to a football player.  I have no idea how I would duplicate the appropriate red, black, and white stripes for the helmet unless I used stickers.  I think it could be done on a larger scale similar to the Star Wars helmet collection, just not sure the stripes could be brick built at that smaller scale.  I have some ideas to add the face mask to the helmet.

If I ever actually attempt this MOC I will surely update you.  I realize only writing about it, not actually building it, is a little anti-climactic, however I felt it was a giant first step for me as an apiring MOC builder.

If anyone has any suggestions on my dilemma about getting stripes on the helmet, please let me know.  If you are building a MOC, I would love to see your pictures and hear about your successes and struggles along the way.

One Random Thought

Summer is winding down, the kids are heading back to school, all the ladies are getting ready for Taylor Swift appearances at football games and pumpkin spice season (HAHA!).  Just kidding ladies….if you love a Fall flavored latte while listening to your favorite Swifty playlist, you do you while owning it proudly! Just as all us adults who’s favorite hobby is building with a “child’s toy.” Let the world know you don’t care what they think of you and that you are gonna live your best life.

Until next time AFOL’s….
