My Lego Christmas List

10362 Holiday Express Train

When I was a kid at Christmas time I would find myself looking at two things when curating my Christmas list:  The JCPenney’s Christmas catalogue and the fall Lego catalog.  A majority of my wish list was Lego and video games (damn I miss being a kid)

In the spirit of a much younger version of myself, I have created the 2025 edition of my Lego Christmas list.

Without further ado, here it is:

75398 C-3PO and 75379 R2-D2

10361 Holiday Express Train: I have always been a sucker for a nice train set.

75407 Brick Built Star Wars Logo: queue the music

75429 AT-AT Driver Helmet: Can you imagine putting on this helmet and driving an AT-AT?  Mind Blown…

75398 C-3PO and 75379 R2-D2: C-3PO and R2-D2 are the OG droids.  If you buy one you have to buy the other, right?

75375 Millennium Falcon: Love this midi scale version.  I can’t wait to get this version and set it next to 7778

76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus Rex: An absolutely amazing display piece.  The build seems like it could get a little monotonous but it will be worth it in the end.

76419 Hogwart’s Castle and Grounds: So much detail packed into this build.  I don't normally collect Harry Potter but this is a must for my collection.

72037 Mario Kart - Mario and Standard Kart

21350 Jaws

I’m really hoping Santa has me on the nice list this year

There are a few underlying similarities amongst the list of sets mentioned above.  Besides the fact that a majority are Star Wars, all the sets are retiring in 2026 or beyond.  I secured my wishlist of sets retiring this year long ago.  Due to the nature of how I look for sales, I prepare my wishlist at the beginning of the year with most of my focus directed on sets that retire in the current year.  Then I strike when the iron is hot.  I use this strategy as it allows me to stretch my budget to get the most bang for my buck.

If Santa does not bring me everything from my list, and it also retires in 2026, I will begin the scouting process to secure that set at some point next year.  For example, 21350 Jaws is scheduled to retire July 31, 2026.  21350 goes to the top of my list of sets to pounce on once a good sale presents itself.  As we all know, retirement dates may change but we can only use the information we have in the moment to make buying decisions.

If you want to learn my approach, please read my previous blog about becoming a savvy Lego collector/investor.  I have referenced that blog post several times over the last month because the strategy has worked very well for me and I think it can work well for you too.

I got off on a little tangent there but I wanted to explain how a little bit of planning can help you secure most sets on your wishlist.

Anyways, for those who celebrate, have a Merry Christmas.  For those that celebrate in other ways, happy holidays to you and your family.

Until next time AFOL’s….
