Creator Continues to Impress
The Lego Creator theme has another great lineup already announced for 2026. I feel like the Creator theme is somewhat of a sleeper theme when you think of big name themes like Star Wars, Super Mario, Harry Potter, Ideas, Icons, and even the Botanicals is rising in popularity. I have been enjoying a lot of the Creator sets, in particularly the 3-in-1’s. Let’s take a look at some of the sets over the last few years.
A Look Back
In 2020, Lego released the 3-in-1 Pirate Ship (31109). I only recently picked up and built this set, and it was incredible. It’s still on display in my kids’ room, which is lucky because they take over a lot of the Lego in the house. The Pirate Ship didn’t have the cloth sails like other famous Lego ships, but I think they did a great job with the design still. The ship is a fun build, with hidden features like the cannons, and the pirates are super nostalgic to me.
I’ll highlight 2 sets from 2021. First, the Tuk Tuk (40469). I always admired this set, watching it on Lego.com and thinking about buying it, but never did. Instead, I finally downloaded the instructions and built my own Tuk Tuk with random pieces. That was a fun experience on it’s own. The second set from this year is the Fish Tank (31122). I found this set while I was out thrifting for the day and picked it up at a local swap meet in used condition. It was not fully complete, but the build was fun and I love the adorable sea creatures.
According to Brickset, in 2022 Creator released the postcards including New York (40519), Beijing (40520), Paris (40568) and London (40569). My son really enjoys this subtheme of Creator and we’re collecting them all. We’re missing Beijing from this year, but I’m still on the search. We like how Lego is able to design these postcards highlighting landmarks in the various cities like the Eiffel Tower in Paris and Big Ben in London. Additional sets from 2022 include Majestic Tiger (31129), Super Robot (31124), Viking Ship and Midgard Serpent (31132), and Vespa (40517).
2023 saw the release of the 3-in-1 Space Shuttle (31134) and it’s one of my favorite sets to build MOCs. I followed a lot of Rebrickable designs and built several of my own spaceships with this small set. The Space Shuttle itself is a great build, but the possibilities that came from the pieces available in the box are endless and the reason why Lego is amazing! More fun Creator sets include the White Rabbit (31133), Exotic Parrot (31136), and Cozy House (31139).
In 2024, Creator released another postcard Japan (40713) which we added to our collection, Mythical Pegasus (40691) a GWP that released during the year that I didn’t pickup at the time and instead bought on the aftermarket, and Wild Safari Animals (31150) which I want still because I think the giraffe looks incredible. Some of these sets are still available and some retire this year, so there’s still time to checkout the 2024 lineup.
This year, fans got the Italy Postcard (40818), the Record Player with Flowers (31172), Haunted Mansion (31167) with the throwback to the ghost of the Lego 90’s, and a Beautiful Horse (31166) yes that’s really it’s name and it’s justified. The Lego designers continued their hot streak and created another round of amazing Creator sets this year.
New for 2026
I listed the sets releasing in January 2026 in our blog post here, and that’s just the beginning of the year. Which means, we have 11 more months to expect exciting things from Lego. A few of the Creator sets that stand out to me:
Turtle with a Water Lily Flower (31377)
At $10 and 124 pieces you can create a cute turtle with a pretty flower, a posable chameleon, or a tiny frog. Honestly, they are all cute and a fantastic price. Again, it’s remarkable Lego is able to provide these 3-in-1 sets where you can use the pieces to choose which build you want.
Wild Animals: Colorful Hummingbird (31384)
Another great value set with 312 pieces at $30. The hummingbird and flowers look beautiful with the blues, yellows, greens and pinks. The second and third options are a butterfly and fish, which look good too.
Space Exploration Telescope (31378)
My favorite Creator set of 2026 (so far)! $35, 278 pieces, the Solar System, a telescope, and a light brick! I might need 5 of these - one for each of my sons, and three for me to build each of the builds. You can build an adjustable telescope on a tripod with the solar system that spins, an adjustable microscope or a UFO. All 3 options look like must-builds IMO.
What’s Next?
With every fun set we’ve seen in the previous years, amazing sets still available this year (2025), and all the beautiful new releases next year (2026) I’m excited for whatever Lego gives us next. I try not to look at the price tag because that’s always going to change, likely trending up. But, if you’re here, you know we do our best to never buy Lego at full price. I like to build Lego and these Creator sets bring that joy, and my kids have fun building and playing with these builds too. What are you most excited for in 2026?
