Superman and Lego

The night before I was planning on seeing the new Superman film I was scrolling Hulu and found the original Superman film from 1978 starring Christopher Reeve. I don’t want to be harsh but that movie was almost unwatchable, I actually stopped watching about 45 minutes in.  The special effects were absolutely terrible.  I realize the movie is almost 50 years old but I don't understand how anyone thought the special effects were good, even for 1978 standards.  The scene where Clark Kent is running alongside the train made me cringe.

This was also the night I learned of the newly leaked Superman themed set, the Daily Planet.

I did a blog post in July covering all the Superman sets that have been released over the years (if you want to read it click here).  In my opinion the Lego Superman theme is underwhelming at best, minus a few Comic Con exclusives and Brickheadz. With Lego releasing a large set like, The Daily Planet, I wonder if they would take on another large build like the Fortress of Solitude. Or even a Superman bust similar to the helmet line or the new Spiderman/Ironman bust sets.  It seems pretty obvious constructing a mask or helmet out of Lego is much easier than a human face, so we will see if that ever comes to fruition. The Lego Group has some very talented designers so I feel this is a future possibility.

Personally I would love a brick built Superman logo similar to the Marvel and Star Wars sets recently released

Which brick built Super man Logo would you prefer? Old school or new school?

The Daily Planet, which is the newspaper/media outlet of Metropolis, and also the place of employment for Clark Kent and Lois Lane, holds the intrigue of DC fans and modular fans alike.  City builders regularly like to include these large buildings based on other IP’s (DC and Marvel, not official modular buildings from the Creator Expert theme).  I have seen the incorporation of these buildings as is or with some sort of modifications to better match the overall theme of their city.

At the time of this writing, an official announcement has yet to be released from Lego, so any information currently on the internet about The Daily Planet is speculation.  The Lego group gets cranky when there are pictures shared about sets that have yet to be released so there will be no pictures today (sorry to those only here for the pictures…)
