MOC: Krypto Superman’s Super Dog

On the heels of the new Superman movie releasing this Summer, I want to share a My Own Creation (MOC) I built of Krypto, Superman’s Super Dog!

My Brickheadz History

I’ll start with a bit of background. In 2024, I built a MOC Brickheadz of myself, and continued that trend and built custom Brickheadz of Brick Dynasty’s Chief Excitement Office and Leader, Kenn, along with a favorite of character from the Masters of the Universe realm, He-Man. In the below left image is Kenn and He-Man, and the right image is me. I designed Kenn with his signature hat and tank, as well as “BD” for Brick Dynasty on the base plate. He-Man has his armor, shield and sword, and I wish I had brighter yellow bricks, but it turned out great. I built myself wearing a grey hoodie, holding a maple bar donut, and I took Harry Potter’s eyes for my glasses.

I had so much fun building these that I wanted to build more, so I asked my audience on Twitter / X in October 2024 for suggestions. Some of the suggestions were Dr. Doom, the Thing, and Krypto. Shoutout to The Toy Investor on Twitter / X because I went with his suggestion to build Krypto! A couple of months later in December 2024, I started my build.

Krypto

The above images are my first iteration of Krypto. I studied the pets line of Brickheadz that are now retired, so you’ll see some similarities like the legs, hinges, and tail. I had enough pieces from my own collection to build the inside structure of the Brickheadz dog. If you haven’t built a Brickheadz set before I recommend to check it out because I appreciate the bricks and colors they use for the internal parts of these characters. For example, you’ll find green and pink 2 x 2 bricks that make up the inside structure.

Back to the build, I also gathered pieces by breaking down some of my older designs and creations I made, mainly taking the sloped bricks and wedges for Krypto’s head and cape. My Krypto is not based on the Krypto in the new movie, so I used the Lego tiles for the flat hair effect. Also, after looking back on this build, I should have used a different tile for Krypto’s collar tag, but I think it looks pretty good overall.

I absolutely loved the building experience, trying different pieces, seeing what worked and what didn’t, and the end result was this cute Lego Krypto Super Dog.

Krypto Reborn

A few months later I wanted to shoot some content for my YouTube channel that I have been trying to kick start again, and I decided to use my Krypto MOC for a video. I started by deconstructing the original build and then documented that process so that I could shoot the video. I also found some additional pieces and colors to replace and try different things with this newer build.

My newly rebuilt Krypto is almost the same as the original, but you’ll see a bigger and better red cape, gold pieces instead of yellow, and a new tile for Krypto’s S. One thing I enjoyed more than I expected was finding pieces in the build and thinking to myself “Why did I choose to use this?” and laughed at myself. I figured I used certain pieces because those were available at the time, but replacing them with different bricks that made sense for the integrity and structure of the build is much more satisfying.

I really like the new Krypto a lot more than the original, but both building experiences were fun!

I love building Lego, whether it’s a set with instructions, modifying a set after I built it by the instructions and add my own edits, or building something completely on my own. The beauty of Lego is that we can build whatever we want. If we like the set exactly as it is, keep it that way. If we want to add changes to fit our personality, we can do that without anyone telling us otherwise. If we want to build something that’s never been built before, we can do so freely.

I hope that everyone - Lego fans, collectors, investors, hobbyists, etc. - builds with Lego at least one time and enjoys doing it!
