Lego Snow Day

When I was a kid and snow was in the forecast, I would hope and pray that school would be cancelled so I could build Lego and play video games all day.  Back in the day before text alerts and app notifications, we had to sit by the television and wait for our school name to scroll across the ticker.  Some days, our school name never appeared.  So after sitting by the TV watching the news for an hour we had to go to school anyway.  Kids these days don’t know the struggle 🤣

Now as an adult, there is no chance that work will be cancelled on account of the weather.  However, when Snow Storm Fern hit the midwest a week ago, I had a day off so I decided to treat it like a snow day and build Lego, and of course shovel snow.

Here is a review of what I accomplished (or didn’t accomplish depending on your point of view) while snow piled up over 12 inches outside.

71426 Pirannha Plant - I was really excited to receive this set as a Christmas present from Santa (wink, wink).  The build did not disappoint either.  To have a little fun, I added it to my Lego Christmas Tree display (yes I still have my Christmas Tree up…).  My only complaint on this set is the potential for balance issues.  The plant head tilts and if not on a flat solid surface it can fall over quite easily.

75429 AT-AT Driver Helmet - The Star Wars Helmet series is one of my favorite sub themes to collect and build.  When this set was released earlier last year I thought this one may be the best one yet.

As you can see from the photos, I ran out of time to complete the helmet.  However, I already know it ranks in my top 3 helmets, joining Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker Red Five.

Some days it just feels great to do nothing productive.  For nostalgia’s sake, I would love to fire up the old 8-bit Nintendo and play The Legend of Zelda and Punch-Out.

Oh wait, I can plug in the NES Classic Edition and play them both.  Mr Macho Man and Ganon better watch out.

Maybe I need to call off a couple more days to relive my youth, let's call it a case of retro fever that can only be cured with nostalgic toys and games from my youth.  I’m sure my boss will understand….

Until next time AFOL’s….
