Exciting Speed Champions Coming Soon

What’s up Lego fans? I have Lego Speed Champions on my mind! I’ve always been a fan of the Speed Champions theme back when the cars were a 6-stud design, and still to this day now that they are 8-studs wide. Heck, I’ve been a fan of Lego cars since Red Race Car Number 3 (Set 1477) back in the early 90’s. Seeing Lego creations come to life with wheels brings out a lot of imagination and creativity for builders young and old, and the fact that the cars have wheels that spin adds that awesome play factor.

The Race Car That Started it All

The Red Race Car Number 3 (Set 1477) was my first car and I’ve loved Lego cars ever since.

Back to why I’ve got Speed Champs on my mind. I recently built the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and had a lot of fun, especially when I modified it into a chibi or mini version of the race car. I shot a video and it’s up on our YouTube channel if you want to see the Chibi Porsche MOC. I appreciate the Lego design team’s building techniques in the Speed Champions line using unique elements in different ways to achieve the lines of the cars and to bring the car it’s modeled after to play form. I’ve built mini versions of the Speed Champs with sets like the 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0 (Set 75895), the Ford Mustang Dark Horse (Set 76920), and the 2 pack Lamborghini Urus ST-X & Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO (Set 76899). So, I had to keep that tradition alive with this latest Porsche. Which gives me an idea - I need to put together a video showcasing all of my Chibi cars.

The other reason why Speed Champions is right at the front of my mind is because of the newest additions we’ll see to the theme next year. In 2026, we’ll get the Disney Pixar favorite Lightning McQueen (Set 77255) and the Time Machine from Back to the Future (Set 77256). Both look incredible and both are going to be awesome sets for all Lego fans to add to their collection.

Time Machine from Back to the Future

The car is going to be a nostalgic kick for everyone who grew up on the Back to the Future movies, and it’ll be a fun and unique build for those who appreciate Lego, cars, and the Speed Champions theme. All we have are photos to review and look at, but I think Lego did a great job here. Whether the translucent blue bricks have stickers or are prints it looks good either way. The ability to convert from car to flight is a great feature, and the minifigures included make so much sense! I’m also happy to see no price increase here - $27.99 (RRP, USA) for 357 pieces. The only thing silly about this set is the name. The Delorean, oh excuse me the Time Machine from Back to the Future is available for pre-order today at Lego.

Lightning McQueen

Kachow! Lego made a smart choice in releasing a Disney Pixar fan favorite. They did another smart thing with the design. I think Lightning looks great with his smile, the eyes, and all the features that bring the character to life. I think what excites me most about seeing Lightning come to Speed Champions is the possibility that other Cars characters may follow. You can probably tell that I’m a Porsche fan, so I’d love to see Sally Carrera get her own Speed Champions. One can hope right?! Well, for now, Lightning McQueen is available for pre-order at Lego.

We have a lot to look forward to as Lego fans, especially if you’re a Speed Champions fan like me. I’ll add the Time Machine and Lightning to my collection in the near future, and at some point I’ll attempt to build them as chibi versions. Look how cute and awesome the Porsche is! That’s it for this one. Thanks for reading!
