May the 4th be with you

We are approaching one of the most sacred holidays in the Star Wars universe, May the 4th.  Lego is getting the celebration started a few days early with a new release and some Insider’s promotions, which include a couple Gifts with Purchase and some opportunities for elevated Insiders points on specific sets.  This year's main theme revolves around the upcoming Mandalorian and Grogu movie that will be released in theaters on May 22nd.

Here is what The Lego Group is offering as part of the May the 4th promotion.  There is a large list of sets that will earn you double, or even up to 4x Insiders points.  Early leaks of sets that will earn elevated points is quite extensive, and also somewhat speculative, so I won't list them here for accuracy and brevity’s sake.

There are also a couple outstanding Gift with Purchase (GWP) promos.  40917 The Darksaber will be free with a qualifying Star Wars purchase of $160 or more while supplies last.  This is a fantastic threshold to receive this GWP, as similar lightsaber hilts as GWP’s from previous years have commanded over $100 on the secondary market.

There is another GWP with only a $40 threshold which is a really cool Razor Crest mini-build (similar razor crest from the Mandalorian series but has yellow accents as shown in the movie trailer).  The beautiful thing is that by spending $160 you get both GWP’s with one purchase.  

So what is the best strategy to obtain the GWP while also getting the most value from those purchases? Depends on your goals:

1. If you want to obtain a Darksaber GWP for your collection, then simply spend $160 on Star Wars sets.

2. If your plan is to acquire multiple GWP’s, then the strategy is to make multiple purchases that total just over $160 each time.  

Below I recommend a few buying strategies for those looking to capitalize on the Star Wars GWP’s and other promotions.

Buy the new release that will be available on May 1st.

Make it easy on yourself if you want all the free gifts with one purchase and buy the latest Star Wars UCS available May 1st.

Buy a few of the new April releases, which include:

• 75447 The Razor Crest

• 75438 Yoda Bust

• 75439 Darth Vader Bust

• 75460 New Republic X-Wing

Look at the Star Wars sets scheduled to retire July 31st.  If you haven't acquired these sets you only have a few months left to get them.  There are 13 total Star Wars sets retiring in July.  Here is the complete list:

There will be sets that qualify for elevated Insider’s points (up to 4x points).  Standard points equals about 5% in cash value so if you buy from the 2x or 4x points list you can increase your points value by 10% (2x) or  20% (4x) in cash value towards a future Lego purchase.  Pair elevated Insider’s points with a GWP and you have definitely created some extra value out of a $160 spend.

Whatever buying strategy you use for May the 4th, make sure your totals are over $160.  If you are at $159.98 you will not qualify for the Darksaber GWP.  You can confirm you have reached the threshold by double checking your cart as it will populate automatically once you are above $160.

One last piece of advice: If you want to guarantee a Darksaber GWP, be online at Lego.com at midnight ET.  We never know how many GWP’s will be available and you do not want to risk missing out.
