Lego Insiders Review

Whether you’re an avid lego collector or a casual builder, you should be rewarded for your purchases.  Lucky for all of us, there is an easy way to accomplish this and it's called Lego Insiders.

Lego Insiders is Lego’s version of a rewards program and is free to join.  You will earn Insider’s points on purchases from Lego.com and from Lego Stores.  When at a Lego store, you can show them a copy of your membership card to be scanned (a digital member card can be added to your wallet app on your phone) or give them your email address and an employee can look you up. You can also earn a few extra points on sets you purchased from other retailers by scanning the QR code on the instruction booklet and linking that set to your account.

The obvious benefit of joining the insider program is FREE LEGO or DISCOUNTED LEGO.  That’s one of the many options you have to choose from when redeeming points, which we will discuss in more detail a little later.  You will receive a predetermined amount of points per purchase (see picture below) and those points will be available for redemption on your NEXT purchase from Lego.com.  There is a section on the set description page showing how many points you will earn with the purchase of each set (see yellow box below).

10328 Botanicals: Bouquet of Roses

Here is an example showing the Insider point value of a set with a retail price of $59.99 which will give you 390 Insiders points.

We will go over the math below.

The standard rate that you redeem Insiders points roughly equals 5% cash value of the purchase price.  For example, if you purchased a $100 set you could expect $5 worth of insider’s points.

If redeeming your Insiders points for cash discounts on purchases, 650 insiders points will give you $5.

Time to prepare your brain for some math…school is in session

Using the example of 10328 Bouquet of Roses in which a set costing $59.99 gives you 390 Insiders points, if you multiply $59.99 by 5%, you get a cash back value of $3.00. If 650 points = $5 cash value and then you do some simple cross multiplication you can see how 390 Insiders points equates to $3.00 in cash back equivalence from the purchase of 10328

Easy right? sure….moving on

Lego periodically runs special events so members can earn 2x or even 4x (10-20% cash value) insiders points on their purchases.  Sometimes it applies to all sets while other times it is theme specific or even set specific.  A great example of this is the very popular Star Wars “May The Fourth” events.  In 2024, they offered 2x points on all Star Wars sets but had a list of specific sets that awarded 4x points.  Lego usually offers 2x points during Black Friday/Cyber Monday as well. Sometimes these special Insiders events may be coupled with a gift with purchase (GWP) to make the value of your Lego purchase even better.

Ways to redeem your Insiders points:

  1. Cash rewards - can redeem for immediate discounts at checkout

  2. Micro Lego builds or limited edition Lego sets - Redeem points for a voucher coupon code to plug in at checkout

  3. Sweepstake entries

  4. Art Prints/posters

  5. Tickets to Legoland Theme Parks or Legoland Discovery Centers

  6. Downloadable content including various activities and digital wallpapers

  7. Keychains

  8. Stationary

As you can see, there are a multitude of ways to redeem the points you earn from your Lego.com and Lego store purchases.

The Lego Insider program is a great way to squeeze a little extra value out of your Lego purchases.  You ultimately get to determine the value of the program by using the redemption method of your choosing.  You can also increase the value of the program by waiting to buy sets on your wishlist when they are running a 2x event.

From a collectors perspective, I prefer using points for discounts on the sets I want for my personal collection or to redeem points for the exclusive sets in the reward center.  Here are a few of my favorite exclusive sets that are currently available for redemption:

If you're not already a Lego Insider, you can click here to sign up for free.

If you are a Lego Insider, my hope is that you learned something new about the program.

Until next time AFOL’s….
